Then said he (Jesus Christ) unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.



"And they (apostles) said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he (Jesus) said unto them, It is enough." Luke 22:38

These (transdispensational) verses are indicative of the priority the creator placed on ensuring that they (disciples) were adequately protected against physical threats, or even (potential) death, as they prepared to travel. A reasonable person could therefore have no doubt he has no less concern for his present-day people, as well. If there is any doubt in the mind of the reader this was (is) a reference to a physical object, I would call your attention to verse 38 (above); which places it in context, showing by the wording that he most certainly meant a literal sword! They are cited here to show God's position (scriptural principles) on (natural) defense, and the use of weaponry, when needed for self-defense.
